Subaru models simplified

The Impreza 2.5i sedan is Subaru's most compact vehicle.  It is similar in size to a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic, but with all wheel drive and even better engineering.  They are priced in the upper teens.

The Impreza 2.5i 5 Door is an Impreza 2.5i Sedan with a cargo area and hatch instead of a trunk.  They are priced in the upper teens.

The Impreza Outback Sport is an Impreza 2.5i 5 Door with a raised suspension, two tone paint, special wheels, and upgraded equipment including cross bars, body moldings, fog lights, heated seats/mirrors/wipers, leather controls, and more. They are priced in the low 20's.

The Impreza WRX is available as a sedan or a 5 Door.  With a turbocharged, 265 horsepower engine, it is very fast, with a zero to sixty time under 5 seconds.  They are priced in the mid to upper 20's.

The Impreza WRX STI is also available as a sedan or a 5 Door.  With 305 horsepower, it will blow your mind.  They are priced in the mid to upper 30's.

The Legacy is a sedan (and only available as a sedan since 2008) that is built on the same platform as the Outback.  It is a full size car, comparable to a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, but with better fuel economy and all wheel drive.  With the 2.5 liter four cylinder engine, the Legacy is available with Subaru's Lineartronic Continously Variable Transmission, which gives it over 30mpg on the highway.  The Legacy is
also available with a 3.6 liter six cylinder engine, and also a turbocharged
2.5 liter engine.  They are priced from the low 20's to high 30's.

The Forester is considered a "compact sport utility vehicle."  It shares a "platform" with the Impreza.  (A platform is the chassis----the frame, or basic underpinnings of a car.)  It is taller than an Impreza and has more ground clearance.  It has more interior room than the Impreza because of the extra height.  It comes in several trim levels, from well equipped to ridiculously well equipped.  It is also available with a turbocharged engine.

The Outback is considered a "crossover vehicle," in that it has the room and capability of a traditional sport utility but it is based on a car chassis (instead of a truck frame). It is built on a longer and wider platform than the Impreza and Forester, though the Forester is slightly taller. With the 2.5 liter four cylinder engine, the Outback is available with Subaru's
Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission, which gives it
remarkable fuel economy (29 mph highway).   It is also available with a
3.6 liter six cylinder engine.  They are priced from the mid 20's to the low 30's.

The Tribeca is Subaru's Flagship, our biggest and most luxurious vehicle.  It is constructed on a stretched Outback platform, so in terms of proportions and road presence, it is like a tall Outback.  Is is the ultimate Subaru and simply unbelievable in the snow.It comes standard with a 3.6 liter six cylinder engine.  Since 2010, it is available only in a seven passenger seating configuration,
the only Subaru available this way. They are priced in the mid to upper $30's.
